HND in Health and Social Care Practice

Course Overview

The healthcare sector in England is a vast and vital landscape, employing approximately 1.3 million people across a diverse range of settings and specialisms. This program serves as a strategic gateway into this rewarding field, offering a professional pathway that can lead directly into the workforce or toward further specialized academic study. By providing a solid understanding of the healthcare environment through a combination of practical study and hands-on experience, the course ensures that you develop the essential competencies required to thrive in various care-related roles.

A central component of this qualification is the integration of work-based learning. By completing experience within a genuine health and social care setting, you will gain the practical skills and frontline knowledge that employers prioritize. This approach not only builds technical proficiency but also fosters transferable skills such as communication, empathy, and crisis management that are applicable across a wide spectrum of healthcare careers, including public health and social care management.

For those already established in the sector, this program offers a dedicated opportunity for career advancement through Continuing Professional Development (CPD). It allows current practitioners to enhance their existing knowledge base and gain a deeper theoretical understanding of their roles, helping to map out a clear trajectory for future leadership or specialist positions. Whether you are looking to begin your journey in healthcare or aiming to specialize in a particular practice, this qualification provides the foundational building blocks necessary for a fulfilling and successful career.

Assesment

This course is designed with a modern, practical approach to learning that completely removes the need for traditional formal examinations. Instead, your academic progress is evaluated through a variety of authentic assessment methods that mirror the tasks you will perform in a professional work environment. You will demonstrate your expertise by writing reports and assignments, as well as through the creation of a comprehensive e-Portfolio of evidence. These digital portfolios allow you to track your growth and showcase your practical skills to future employers. Communication and analytical abilities are further refined through presentations, personal discussions, and the analysis of real-world case studies, ensuring you graduate with a well-rounded and versatile skillset.

Because this programme focuses on practical application, self-study is a vital component of your success. You will be expected to manage your own time outside of scheduled classes to conduct independent research, complete homework tasks, and collaborate with peers on group work. This independent learning allows you to dive deeper into the subjects that interest you most and prepares you for the self-sufficiency required in the professional world. Throughout your studies, your lecturers will act as mentors, providing consistent and structured guidance on how to manage your workload and approach each different assessment type with confidence.

Entry Requirements

To join this Learn Quest Education programme, all applicants must be aged 18 or older and meet the requirements for one of our accessible entry pathways. Standard applicants are typically expected to hold a Level 3 qualification or an Access to Higher Education Certificate, alongside a demonstrated level of English proficiency equivalent to a GCSE Grade 4/C or CEFR B2. If you do not currently hold these specific English credentials, we provide a convenient alternative: you can complete an internal English language test at one of our Learn Quest Education campuses to ensure you are fully prepared for degree-level study.

We are highly committed to academic inclusivity and warmly welcome applications from mature students aged 21 and over who may not possess traditional academic qualifications. If you can demonstrate a strong willingness to learn and provide evidence of relevant academic, professional, or vocational experience in a related field, we encourage you to apply. This pathway values your real-world expertise and commitment to professional growth, ensuring that your unique career history is recognized as a valid foundation for higher education. All mature applicants must also meet our English proficiency standards, either through existing qualifications or our on-campus testing.

Because this course involves working with people, there are a few additional professional requirements to keep in mind. You will be required to submit an up-to-date CV before starting, and you must undergo an Enhanced DBS check. This check is an essential legal requirement for anyone intending to work with children, adults in need of care, or other vulnerable groups, and it must be completed before you can begin your mandatory work placement.
The application process itself is a clear, four-step journey: first, complete the ‘Apply Now’ form and submit your supporting documents; then, attend an academic panel interview to discuss your goals; and finally, wait for Learn Quest Education to review your full profile and provide a final decision.
